Eatable Adventures selects five groundbreaking startups for its Raíces program, tackling critical challenges such as food safety, waste reduction, and soil degradation. Each will receive direct investment from the accelerator.

Global agrifoodtech accelerator Eatable Adventures has announced the five startups selected for the first edition of Raíces, an ambitious program that bridges the innovation ecosystems of Spain and Latin America. The initiative aims to scale the most disruptive agrifood solutions from the Spanish-speaking world to the global stage.

With Raíces, Eatable Adventures expands its international footprint, accelerating high-impact solutions in Europe and Latin America, and reinforcing its ability to connect entrepreneurial talent, capital, and major food corporations through a truly global approach.

The program is backed by top-tier international partners: Spain’s Export and Investment agency (ICEX), supporting the startups’ global expansion; the National Centre for Food Technology and Safety (CNTA), acting as a strategic partner for technology development and validation; and major food industry players such as Bimbo Ventures and Alianza Team, who will work with the startups through pilot projects and commercial agreements.

Selected startups will benefit from up to €1 million in investment and a high-performance 16-week acceleration program, including two in-person bootcamps in Madrid.

The call attracted over 175 applications, with 74% from Latin America and 22.4% from Spain, showcasing the strength of entrepreneurial talent across the Atlantic. The most represented technological areas included next-generation agriculture (32.9%), circular value chains (23.5%), and health and nutrition (16.5%).

The five selected startups: Driving agrifood innovation through critical technologies

THE FOOD CHAINERS

The first intellectual property marketplace for agrifood

Based in Madrid, this startup has created the first Web3 platform to protect and commercialize intangible assets in the agrifood industry. Their system tokenizes know-how, technological developments, formulations, patents, and expert knowledge using NFTs and blockchain, enabling these innovations to become investable assets. The platform enhances traceability, collaboration, and the value of innovation across the food industry.

BEE TECHNOLOGY

Biotech to extend shelf life in the animal protein industry

This Chilean biotech startup develops natural ingredients that eliminate pathogenic bacteria such as Listeria, E. coli, and S. aureus in fresh food, extending shelf life by up to 76% without synthetic additives. Their precision fermentation technology offers sustainable solutions for the global food industry, with applications in meat, dairy, cosmetics, and crop protection.

KOJI

Fermentation and technology for a new world of flavours

Based in Colombia, Koji connects biodiversity with the global food industry through fermentation, advanced bioprocessing, and data science. Their platform maps combinations between koji fungal strains (Aspergillus oryzae) and regenerative ingredients native to Latin America, unlocking 100% natural, functional, and traceable food solutions.

NUNATAK

From Antarctica to the fields: the next generation of bio-inputs

Argentinian startup Nunatak tackles the challenges of soil degradation and fertilizer inefficiency by developing microbiological bio-inputs derived from extremophile microorganisms found in harsh environments like Antarctica. Compatible with conventional products, these inputs enhance crop nutrition, yield, and climate resilience, providing a sustainable answer to declining soil health.

SCIPHAGE

A natural alternative to antibiotics in animal protein

This Colombian startup creates phage-based antibacterial solutions targeting harmful bacteria like Salmonella, without affecting animals or humans. Designed for poultry and aquaculture, their products leave no chemical residues, avoid antimicrobial resistance, and integrate seamlessly into existing production systems — a game-changing, natural alternative to traditional antibiotics.

“The Raíces startups prove that deep innovation and sustainability can thrive anywhere in the world. Ventures like The Food Chainers, Bee Technology, Koji, Nunatak, and SciPhage are rewriting the rules of the food system, delivering impactful technological and biological solutions to some of the industry’s most pressing challenges — from food safety and waste to antimicrobial resistance and soil degradation. These companies are not only building the future of agrifoodtech — they’re leading a systemic transformation at the intersection of science, purpose, and business disruption,” said José Luis Cabañero, CEO and founder of Eatable Adventures.
