The company develops its own high-efficiency, automated platform for growing leafy greens, addressing key challenges in the global food system
Spanish Agrifoodtech startup Néboda has closed a €1.84 million seed funding round to consolidate its pre-industrial vertical farming model. This capital injection will enable the company to validate key business metrics and establish commercial agreements with major fresh produce distributors across the Iberian Peninsula.
The round was backed by a group of strategic investors, including Clave Capital (through its Mondragon Fondo de Promoción II), Unirisco, Xesgalicia, Eatable Adventures, and CDTI through its SICC Innvierte. This milestone will lay the groundwork for a Series A round expected in 2026, aimed at building Néboda’s first industrial-scale production plant.
Proprietary technology powering high-value crop production
Founded in 2019 by Iván García Besada and Roberto Estévez Quintela, Néboda has developed a proprietary vertical farming platform that integrates hydroponics, robotics and artificial intelligence to optimize every stage of the growing process for leafy greens and aromatic herbs, such as basil. The result: fresh, flavorful, pesticide-free vegetables with extended shelf life, produced at costs competitive with traditional agriculture.
Leveraging lean manufacturing principles and its own technology, Néboda has quadrupled yield per square meter over the past three years, reduced water usage by over 90%, and significantly lowered its environmental footprint. The system is replicable globally, enabling local production, minimal logistics, and guaranteed freshness from farm to consumer.
Currently, the company operates a 200 m² pre-industrial facility in Galicia with an annual output of 8,000 kg, all of which is commercialized through leading fruit and vegetable distributors in Spain and Portugal.
A scalable and sustainable solution for the future of agriculture
The company was selected in 2023 by Eatable Adventures to join its Spain Foodtech acceleration program, becoming part of its international investment portfolio, which currently includes 30 AgriFoodTech startups from Europe and Latin America.
“Néboda represents the new generation of companies that are reshaping the agrifood system from the ground up. Their vision, technological capabilities, and scalability are fully aligned with our mission to build a more efficient, resilient, and healthier food system. At Eatable Adventures, we support them not only as strategic partners and investors, but also by helping design their growth strategy, global positioning, and key partnerships. Through projects like this, we aim to drive a transformative model focused on food security, one that redefines how we grow our produce” said José Luis Cabañero, Founder and CEO of Eatable Adventures.
Néboda was created with the ambition to address some of the most pressing challenges in agriculture today: labor shortages, climate change, and the overexploitation of natural resources. Its scientific and industrial approach combines profitability, sustainability, and product quality, positioning the startup among the most promising players in Europe’s new wave of AgriFoodTech innovators.
