The five Spanish-speaking startups driving agrifood innovation in Spain and Latin America

Eatable Adventures selects five startups for the Raíces program addressing critical challenges such as food security, food waste, and soil degradation. All of them will receive direct investment from the accelerator.

Eatable Adventures, a leading global Agrifoodtech accelerator, has unveiled the five startups selected to take part in the first edition of the Raíces program. This pioneering initiative connects the agrifood innovation ecosystems of Spain and Latin America, with the goal of bringing the most disruptive solutions from the Spanish-speaking world to the international market.

Through this initiative, Eatable Adventures expands its impact in accelerating innovative solutions for the agrifood industry across Europe and Latin America, reinforcing its ability to connect entrepreneurial talent, capital, and large corporations through a global approach.

For the development of the program, the accelerator has partnered with leading international organizations: ICEX, to support the global expansion of startups; CNTA, as a strategic partner in technological development and validation; and major food industry multinationals such as Bimbo Ventures and Alianza Team, which will offer startups the opportunity to collaborate and test their solutions through real pilots and commercial agreements.

The selected startups will be eligible to receive up to €1 million in investment and will participate in a 16-week high-performance acceleration program, including two in-person bootcamps in Madrid.

The selection process received more than 175 applications, with 74% coming from Latin America and 22.4% from Spain, highlighting the strong entrepreneurial potential across the Atlantic. The most represented technologies were next-generation agriculture (32.9%), circular value chains (23.5%), and health and nutrition (16.5%).

The five selected startups: leveraging critical technologies to address agrifood challenges

THE FOOD CHAINERS

The first intellectual property marketplace in agrifood

Based in Madrid, this startup has developed the first Web3 platform designed to protect and commercialize intangible assets in the agrifood sector. Its system enables the trading of know-how, technological developments, formulations, patents, and expert knowledge, transforming them into investable assets through NFTs and blockchain technology. The Food Chainers enhances traceability, collaboration, and the valorization of innovation within the food industry.

BEE TECHNOLOGY

Biotechnology to extend shelf life in the animal protein industry

This Chilean startup develops natural ingredients capable of eliminating harmful bacteria such as Listeria, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus in fresh foods, extending shelf life by up to 76% without synthetic additives. Its precision fermentation technology helps reduce production losses, improve food safety, and deliver sustainable solutions for the global food industry, with applications in meat, processed foods, dairy, cosmetics, and crop protection.

KOJI

Fermentation and technology for a new universe of flavors

A Colombian startup combining traditional fermentation with advanced bioprocesses and data technology to develop 100% natural, functional, and traceable ingredients from regenerative raw materials. Through its platform, it maps combinations between strains of Aspergillus oryzae (Koji) and biodiverse ingredients, enabling companies to create more flavorful, healthier, and sustainable products.

NUNATAK

From Antarctica to the field: next-generation bioinputs

Agriculture is facing degraded soils and declining fertilizer efficiency. Nunatak, an Argentine startup, addresses this challenge by developing microbiological bioinputs derived from extremophile microorganisms, compatible with conventional products and capable of enhancing climate resilience in extreme environments such as Antarctica. These solutions improve crop nutrition, yield, and resilience, addressing soil degradation and the decreasing effectiveness of fertilizers.

SCIPHAGE

A natural alternative to antibiotics in animal protein.

This Colombian startup develops natural antibacterial solutions based on bacteriophages — viruses that eliminate harmful bacteria such as Salmonella without affecting animals or humans. Designed for poultry and aquaculture, their products leave no residues and do not generate antimicrobial resistance, offering an effective and sustainable alternative to traditional antibiotics.

“Raíces startups demonstrate that deep innovation and a commitment to sustainability can emerge from anywhere in the world. Initiatives such as The Food Chainers, Bee Technology, Koji, Nunatak, and SciPhage are redefining the rules of the food system, delivering high-impact technological and biological solutions to critical challenges such as food security, waste, antimicrobial resistance, and soil degradation. These companies are not only building the future of agrifoodtech — they are leading a systemic transformation that connects science, purpose, and business disruption,” said José Luis Cabañero, CEO and Founder of Eatable Adventures.
